Human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman said that restoring Yemen’s state institutions and full sovereignty is essential to defeating armed groups, achieving lasting peace, and safeguarding regional stability.

In an interview with Fox News on strategies for defeating the Houthi militia and other armed factions, Karman said the Yemeni people have the capacity to achieve this objective and are ready to serve as an active partner in protecting regional and international security.

Karman stressed that no lasting or sustainable peace can be achieved without restoring the Yemeni state, rebuilding its institutions, and reestablishing its full sovereignty over the country’s entire territory.

Her remarks come shortly after her address to the United Nations, where she warned that the collapse of Yemen’s state institutions has evolved from a domestic crisis into a growing international security concern. She noted that the continued erosion of state authority threatens international shipping routes, global trade, energy security, and supply chains, with broader implications for regional and global peace and stability.
