Humanitarian Assistance Campaign in the Context of the Foundation’s Confrontation of Covid-19 Pandemic
As part of the quick humanitarian response plan adopted by Tawakkol Karman Foundation (TKF), during the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in Yemen, helping patients most susceptible to the virus, those who suffer from chronic diseases, cancer, leprosy, and renal failure, the foundation launched its campaign on Sunday 17th of May, 2020, in three major hospitals in Taiz
(the Al Jumhuri Hospital, Al-Thawra Hospital, and Leprosy Hospital), providing financial assistance of 44 million Yemeni Riyal for 1,145 patients, half of them are women.
The event was attended by Taiz Governorate’s first secretary, Dr. Abdul Aziz al-Mikhlafi, who conveyed to TKF the appreciation of local authority of the assistance provided, especially in the circumstances of war and siege. Al-Mikhlafi pointed to the importance of having institutions that can uphold the responsibility to play a humanitarian role and offer projects in response to the immediate demands, as well as sustainable development projects.
Following the ceremony, the campaign team, represented by its manager Ms. Hayat Al-Thabhani, accompanied the Governorate’s secretary and the chairperson of the general assembly of Al-Thawra Hospital, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sami’e, in a visit to the Dialysis Department to distribute assistance to the patients.
