Nobel Laureate Condemns Bombing of Yemen’s Islah Party HQ
Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman has condemned a deadly bomb attack targeting the headquarters of Yemen’s Islah Party in the city of Taiz.
In a post on social media, the Yemeni activist described Thursday’s bombing as an act of terrorism, warning that such attacks—fueled by hate speech—pose a threat to society as a whole, not just to a single political group. Karman urged the public to condemn the violence and reject incitement.
According to local reports, the blast killed two senior Islah Party officials and a seven-year-old child. At least ten others, including women and children, were injured.
The Islah Party confirmed the deaths in a statement, describing the bombing as a “treacherous terrorist attack” aimed at undermining the city’s security. The party identified the slain officials as Ibrahim Noman Al-Sharaei and Mohammed Abdullah Saeed Al-Mughlis.
The city of Taiz, a flashpoint in Yemen’s long-running conflict, has witnessed repeated violence. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the latest attack.
