Tawakkol Karman Describes Al-Bahsni’s Removal as a Significant but Unfinished Measure
Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights advocate Tawakkol Karman has described the removal of Faraj Al-Bahsni from Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council as a significant and highly symbolic measure aimed at breaking the long-standing policy of impunity.
Writing on her official Facebook account, Karman said the decision reflects a move in the right direction, but noted that it cannot be considered sufficient unless followed by comparable action against Tareq Saleh. She called for his dismissal from the council and for his referral to trial on charges of high treason.
Karman concluded that completing such steps would constitute accountability for the bloodshed of Yemenis, protect the republican system, preserve national unity, and reinforce the rule of law.
