Tawakkol Karman Warns Against Dragging Yemen into Regional War, Condemns Houthi Involvement
Prominent human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Tawakkol Karman has expressed strong opposition to the involvement of Houthi forces in the ongoing regional escalation, warning that such actions risk further destabilizing Yemen and entangling it in conflicts beyond its national interests.
In a statement issued today, Karman affirmed her full solidarity with the Iranian people in the face of what she described as Israeli-American aggression, while firmly rejecting all forms of war and external attacks that seek to undermine national sovereignty or impose control over resources.
At the same time, she sharply criticized the Houthis’ decision to engage in the conflict, stating that their involvement “does not serve Yemen or its causes.” She added that such actions once again demonstrate how the group is being used to advance foreign agendas at the expense of Yemen’s security, stability, and the future of its people.
Karman cautioned against turning Yemen into a battleground for regional power struggles, emphasizing that the country must not be forced to bear the consequences of conflicts that are unrelated to its national priorities.
Protecting Yemen requires keeping it neutral in these wars, she stressed, calling for an end to the exploitation of the country in broader geopolitical confrontations that, she said, only benefit forces seeking to destabilize the region.
Her remarks come amid growing concerns over the widening scope of the conflict and the potential for further regional spillover, with Yemen remaining one of the most vulnerable arenas for escalation.
